Internship Opportunities

We are currently accepting applications for the following internship positions at the Nigerian Center

  • Immigration Paralegal

  • Social Media Specialist

  • Chief of Staff to the Executive Director

Positions are available on a hybrid basis, allowing interns to collaborate remotely while also engaging with our team in person at our Washington, DC office.

Immigration Paralegal

Support the Nigerian Center’s immigration services by assisting with legal case preparation, client communication, and administrative support under the supervision of accredited representatives and immigration professionals.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with client intake and case documentation

  • Preparing immigration forms and supporting documents

  • Organizing client files and maintaining accurate records

  • Conducting legal research on immigration policies and procedures

  • Supporting immigration clinics and community workshops

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, or have graduated from an accredited college or university within the past two years

  • Be pursuing or hold a degree in a relevant field, such as public policy, social work, law, communications, marketing, nonprofit management, finance, education, international relations, or a related discipline

  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Show professionalism, reliability, sound judgment, and the ability to manage responsibilities independently

  • Be committed to the Nigerian Center’s mission of advancing opportunity, justice, cultural connection, and support for Black immigrant communities


Social Media Specialist

Help tell the Nigerian Center’s story and amplify our programs, events, and community impact through digital platforms.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Creating and scheduling social media content

  • Developing graphics, videos, and digital campaigns

  • Supporting content planning and storytelling initiatives

  • Monitoring engagement and analyzing social media performance

  • Promoting community programs and events

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, or a recent graduate from an accredited college or universityPursuing or holding a degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, media production, graphic design, digital media, or a related field

  • Demonstrated interest in social media, digital storytelling, content creation, and community engagement

  • Familiarity with major social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, and TikTok

  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and platforms

  • Experience creating social media graphics, short-form videos, captions, or digital content is preferred

  • Familiarity with tools such as Canva, CapCut, Adobe Creative Suite, Meta Business Suite, or similar platforms is preferred


Chief of the Staff to the Executive Director

Provide strategic administrative and operational support to the Executive Director while gaining experience in nonprofit leadership and organizational management.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting executive priorities and special projects

  • Assisting with meeting coordination and follow-up

  • Conducting research and preparing reports

  • Supporting organizational planning and communications

  • Helping improve internal systems and workflows

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, or have graduated from an accredited college or university within the past two years

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program or recently graduated from an accredited college or university

  • Pursuing or holding a degree in public policy, public administration, nonprofit management, business administration, international relations, communications, political science, social work, or a related field

  • Demonstrated interest in nonprofit leadership, organizational strategy, community development, public service, or executive management

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear emails, meeting notes, reports, and briefing materials
