About the Nigerian Center

The Nigerian Center is the first immigrant and cultural center for the Nigerian diaspora. Proudly serving the largest Black immigrant group in the United States. The center was established to provide a connection to the Nigerian culture while offering financial inclusion and social justice opportunities for members of the Nigerian American community in the United States. We educate, empower, uplift, and assist immigrant families in acclimating to life in the United States. We accomplish this through minority and immigrant advocacy, cultural and language classes, legal aid services, small business support and homeownership opportunities.

Job Description:

As the Community Outreach Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in expanding the Nigerian Center's reach and impact within the community. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement outreach strategies to engage and connect with individuals, organizations, and community partners. By fostering strong relationships and collaborations, you will help advance the mission of financial inclusion and immigrant justice for the Nigerian American community.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute outreach plans to promote the Nigerian Center's programs and services to the target community.

  • Build and maintain partnerships with local community organizations, government agencies, educational institutions, and faith-based groups to expand the reach of our initiatives.

  • Organize and participate in community events, workshops, and information sessions to raise awareness about the Nigerian Center's services.

  • Conduct outreach efforts through various channels, including social media, email marketing, and community meetings.

  • Collaborate with the communications team to create engaging outreach materials and promotional content.

  • Conduct regular assessments to measure the effectiveness of outreach strategies and make necessary adjustments.

  • Assist in organizing fundraising events and activities to support the Nigerian Center's initiatives.

  • Provide support to community members in accessing the center's resources and services.

  • Stay informed about current issues and developments affecting the Nigerian American community to tailor outreach efforts accordingly.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.

  • Proven experience in community outreach, engagement, or related roles.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively connect with diverse community members.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Knowledge and understanding of financial inclusion and immigrant justice issues are preferred.

  • Familiarity with African immigrants is a plus.

  • Proficiency in using various communication tools and platforms.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, to attend community events.

  • Although not a requirement, proficiency in speaking French, Spanish, Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa will be considered a strong asset.
