Our immigration clinic now offers free walk-in services at the Nigerian Center, located at 700 Pennsylvania Ave, SE, Washington DC 20003. These clinic services are available every Thursday from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. For individuals residing outside the Washington DC metro area or those who prefer a virtual consultation, or if you have inquiries, please do not hesitate to call us at (800) 395-9272 to schedule an appointment or obtain further information. Please note that there is a small $85 fee to book a virtual consultation, while walk-in services remain free. Community Immigration Defense Fund – Information Session

The Community Immigration Defense Fund is a national initiative launched by a coalition of Nigerian American organizations, including the Nigerian Center, the Nigerian American Lawyers Association (NALA), the Nigerian American Public Affairs Committee (NAPAC), and the NAPAC Foundation. The fund aims to eliminate financial barriers for individuals who need to consult with an immigration attorney but cannot afford legal representation.
To further engage and inform the community, the coalition will host a virtual information session on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 12:30 PM ET. The session is open to community members, legal professionals, and immigrant-serving organizations. Attendees will learn how the fund works, who qualifies, and how to access support.

Community Meeting on Nigeria Re-designation as a Country of Particular Concern

We are holding a virtual meeting to discuss House Resolution 220, which proposes the re-designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) due to armed conflict and religious persecution of minority groups, sponsored by Rep. Christopher Smith. At this meeting, we will hear from organizations and community leaders championing this campaign. We will consider both supporting and opposing arguments to help our community understand the implications of this designation to the country. 2025 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Info Session
About Event (Virtual)
The Nigerian Center will host an informational session for its 2025 IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). Sponsored by the IRS, the VITA program provides a secure and convenient way for thousands of families and individuals nationwide to complete their annual tax filings.
Eligible individuals and families with an annual income of less than $64,000 can access this complimentary service at the Nigerian Center. The Center will offer free tax preparation services through both walk-in and virtual options from January 15 to April 15.
The informational session, scheduled for January 10 at 12:30 PM ET, is open to the public and prospective organizations interested in promoting the program to their community members.

Are you an international student seeking off-campus employment authorization due to economic hardship?
This Know Your Rights workshop is an important event for international students seeking clarity on work authorization and the practical steps to take to gain authorization. There are ongoing Special Student Relief (SSR) campaigns to designate several African countries, including Nigeria, Congo, Sudan, Mauritania, and others with this status. SSR allows international students more opportunities for employment on and off campus. While these campaigns are ongoing, international students might be able to apply for immigration benefits that include off-campus work authorization individually. Do you have undocumented family members who are minors? This workshop will provide an overview of Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), a unique path to immigration status for young people under the age of 21.
