Media Advisory: Congressional Briefing on Nigeria
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, DC — Nigeria remains one of the United States’ most important partners in Africa, playing a critical role in regional security, trade, democratic governance, and economic development. As discussions continue regarding Nigeria’s status in U.S. religious freedom policy, including considerations related to Countries of Particular Concern (CPC), Congress has an opportunity to engage in a balanced dialogue on security cooperation, human rights, and regional stability.
To support informed engagement, the Nigerian Center, in partnership with a national coalition of Nigerian American organizations, will host a Congressional Briefing titled “Why Nigeria Matters: Security, Economy, and Diaspora Priorities for U.S. Policy.” The event will provide Members of Congress and congressional staff with a concise overview of Nigeria’s strategic importance to U.S. foreign policy, the implications of CPC-related discussions, and the growing role of the Nigerian American diaspora as a bridge between both nations.
This nonpartisan briefing will convene Members of Congress, congressional staff, policy stakeholders, and leaders from the Nigerian American community to discuss security cooperation, trade and economic engagement, and diaspora priorities shaping the future of U.S.–Nigeria relations.
