Joint Statement by the Nigerian Center, NAPAC, and NIDOA on the Recent Designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC)

Washington, DC, November 5, 2025 The Nigerian Center, the Nigerian American Public Affairs Committee (NAPAC), and the Nigerians in the Diaspora Organization of the Americas (NIDOA) express deep concern over the recent announcement by President Donald J. Trump designating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) by the United States government.

As leading organizations representing the interests and welfare of Nigerian Americans, we recognize that such designations are intended to encourage constructive dialogue and policy reform, not to penalize the Nigerian people. We acknowledge the complex challenges Nigeria faces, including persistent insecurity, acts of terrorism, and threats to religious freedom that have impacted diverse communities and faiths across the nation.

We urge both the Nigerian and U.S governments to pursue a transparent and collaborative approach that reinforces the long-standing friendship and strategic partnership between our two nations. The Nigerian American community remains an asset to both Nigeria and the United States, serving as a vital bridge contributing to economic development, civic engagement, and cultural exchange between our two nations.

Our organizations stand ready to engage with both governments, policy makers, civil society, and international partners to promote peace, human rights, and inclusive development toward a more secure, just, and prosperous Nigeria.
