Nigerian Center Receives $110,000 in Funding from OpenAI, TD Bank, Guinness, Maryland Bar Foundation, and Capitol Hill Foundation
WASHINGTON, D.C. — October 27, 2026 — The Nigerian Center is pleased to announce that it has received $110,000 in new funding from five organizations: the OpenAI Foundation, Maryland Bar Foundation, Capitol Hill Foundation, TD Charitable Foundation, and Guinness.
The funding will strengthen and expand the Center’s immigration legal services, financial empowerment initiatives, cultural, and community programming, advancing its mission to empower Nigerian and other Black immigrant communities in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and across the United States.
The Nigerian Center was selected as one of 163 nonprofit organizations in the OpenAI Foundation’s People-First AI Fund. The initiative supports nonprofits exploring how artificial intelligence can help communities across the United States access essential services, strengthen creative and cultural institutions, and support local journalism.
Funding from the Maryland Bar Foundation will continue to support the Center’s efforts to expand access to free and low-cost immigration legal assistance for individuals and families in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The grant will also support the Center’s legal representation of community members facing immigration detention and deportation.
Support from the TD Charitable Foundation will expand the Center’s financial empowerment initiatives, helping individuals and families build financial knowledge, access essential resources, and work toward long-term economic stability.
Funding from the Capitol Hill Foundation and Guinness will strengthen the Center’s cultural and community programs, including cultural celebrations, language classes, educational workshops, and community engagement initiatives. These investments will create more opportunities for community members to connect, celebrate their heritage, and preserve cultural traditions.
The Nigerian Center extends its appreciation to the OpenAI Foundation, Maryland Bar Foundation, Capitol Hill Foundation, TD Charitable Foundation, and Guinness for their generous support and shared commitment to strengthening the communities it serves.
