Washington, DC - October 6, 2025 – The Nigerian Center is proud to announce that it has officially received federal trademark approval for its name and brand identity from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
This milestone marks a significant step in protecting the Center’s identity and strengthening its mission to serve Nigerian Americans, Black immigrants, and the broader African diaspora in the nation’s capital and beyond.
“The Nigerian Center has embraced both the responsibility and the opportunity to steward and amplify the Nigerian brand, one of the most iconic cultural brands the world has ever seen to come out of the African continent. Our trademark approval further strengthens our efforts in telling this story. It ensures that our work and our community voice are recognized and safeguarded as we continue to build programs that empower immigrants and advance social justice,” said Gbenga Ogunjimi, Executive Director of the Nigerian Center.
The Nigerian Center provides legal, financial, advocacy, and cultural services. Its current initiatives include Washington’s Prosperity, a narrative shift campaign highlighting Black immigrants as engines of prosperity. With federal trademark protection now secured, the Center is positioned to expand its visibility and grow its footprint nationwide.
