Understanding Renters’ Rights as an Immigrant

The Renters' Rights training is an educational workshop that is designed to empower tenants by providing them with a comprehensive understanding of their rights as renters in the District of Columbia. The workshop is conducted by the Education and Community Outreach team of the Office of the Tenant Advocate (OTA) and is intended to inform the wider tenant community about their legal rights and other important concerns related to rental housing. During the workshop, attendees will learn about the various laws and regulations that apply to rental housing in the District of Columbia, including those related to security deposits, rent increases, eviction, and habitability standards. The workshop will also feature Nigerian Center Immigration Attorney, Melvin Jarrett, who will speak about the legal resources available to those in need of immigration assistance.
