WASHINGTON, D.C. August 14, 2026 -The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos has welcomed Brandon Hudspeth as its new Consul General. He begins a three-year tenure as the senior U.S. government representative across the 17 states of southern Nigeria.

This marks Hudspeth’s second assignment in Lagos, having previously served as Political-Economic Section Chief from 2020–2022.

In his new role, Hudspeth has highlighted strengthening the U.S.–Nigeria partnership, with a focus on expanding trade and investment, advancing innovation, strengthening collaboration in technology and the creative industries, and creating new opportunities for shared prosperity.

“I am honored to return to Lagos as the U.S. Consul General,” Hudspeth said, emphasizing the strong entrepreneurial spirit and shared interests connecting Nigerians and Americans.

His return comes at an important moment for U.S.–Nigeria relations, with opportunities to deepen economic partnerships, support innovation, and strengthen people-to-people ties.

“The appointment of a new consul general to Lagos, Nigeria comes at an important moment in the relationship between our two countries. Nigeria remains one of America’s most consequential partners in Africa, and the Nigerian American community has an increasingly important role to play in strengthening that relationship. We look forward to working with the new consul general to deepen engagement with the diaspora and advance shared priorities in economic opportunity, security, democracy, culture, and people-to-people ties. At the Nigerian Center, we believe the diaspora should not simply observe the U.S.–Nigeria relationship, we should help shape its future.”

— Gbenga Ogunjimi, Executive Director, Nigerian Center.

We look forward to following his tenure and the opportunities it may create for deeper engagement between Nigeria, the United States, and the Nigerian diaspora.
