About the Nigerian Center

The Nigerian Center is a national civic institution advancing social justice, culture, and opportunity. The Center is recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice to provide immigration legal services through accredited representatives and attorneys. As we expand our legal services footprint to Texas, we seek a mission-aligned Program Manager to join our team in Houston.

Position Summary

The Community Navigator serves as a trusted liaison between the Nigerian Center’s Legal Services Program and the community. This role helps individuals understand available legal services, assists with intake and referrals, and supports clients through the process of accessing immigration legal assistance. The Navigator will work closely with accredited representatives and legal staff to ensure community members receive timely information, referrals, and support.

Role and Duties:

  • Conduct outreach to immigrant communities to raise awareness about the Nigerian Center’s legal services and connect individuals to available support.

  • Perform initial client intake screenings and assist with scheduling consultations with accredited representatives or legal staff.

  • Help clients understand the legal services process, including eligibility requirements and next steps in their case.

  • Support clients in gathering necessary documents and information required for legal consultations and case preparation.

  • Assist in organizing and supporting Know Your Rights workshops, legal clinics, and community education events.

  • Coordinate referrals to appropriate internal programs at the Nigerian Center and external legal or social service providers when necessary.

  • Maintain accurate client records and assist with tracking outreach, intake, and service data for program reporting and evaluation.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with immigrant communities or community-based organizations.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.

  • Commitment to immigrant justice and community empowerment.

  • Experience in immigration services, legal aid, or nonprofit programs.

  • Familiarity with immigration processes or community legal services.

  • Experience conducting community outreach.

Work Structure

  • Part-time (10–25 hours per week)

  • Hybrid, with in-person clinics in Houston

  • Occasional evening or weekend clinics
